REFLECTIVE SPACES

There is something very particular about being part of a well-functioning group.

Whether in a work team, a sports team, or a family, groups shape how we experience ourselves and others. At their best, they offer a sense of belonging, recognition, and the possibility of being more fully oneself.
A central part of my work involves creating and facilitating groups for personal and professional development, drawing on group analytic understanding.

Group analysis is based on the idea that people are fundamentally social, and that each of us is shaped by the world we live in. The individual is not separate from this context, but part of it — what Foulkes described as a nodal point in a network of relationships.

From this perspective, distress is not only located within the individual, but may also reflect difficulties in connection, communication, or belonging within the wider group.

“The experience of belonging to a group over time can in itself be healing. To be oneself and to have a sense of belonging: these are valuable achievements in a pressurised, at times alienated existence.”

Morris Nitsun

My workshops offer an introduction to this way of thinking, using story and reflection to explore how groups function, and what happens when thinking becomes more difficult under pressure.

For those who wish to continue, reflective practice groups provide a more sustained space to think about experience over time, alongside others.

Workshops and events are listed on Eventbrite and delivered online via Zoom.
